The Secret Ingredient
‘Tis the season for body care shops to roll out their holiday offerings, and I couldn’t be more excited by what perennial all-star The Body Shop has in stores. The brand has long been a go-to for shoppers looking to either replenish their loved ones’ favourite limited-edition holiday products, or to simply pick up a ready-to-go gift idea at literally every price point, often pre-wrapped! This year I applaud them for honing in on three holiday baking ingredient-inspired fragrances. It’s always cool when you can tie a fragrance to an actual real-life scent, instead of abstractions like ‘Winter Frost’ or ‘Holiday Cheer’, am I right?
We’ll kick things off with the Christmas-dinner-inspired Cranberry Joy, a returning favourite in bright and festive red. The light and fruity fragrance will easily remind you of a delicious holiday cocktail, while the lush colour calls to mind holly berries and Santa’s suit. Cranberry Joy is one of the more universally appealing scents The Body Shop has – it works well no matter what your age range, or personal scent preferences. One particularly cool thing about this year’s seasonal scents is all products are available across all three fragrances, and The Body Shop has introduced a bevy of new items to add to your wish list. Check out the Festive Hand Care Duo housed in a sleigh-like reusable caddy – and at $20, it’s an apt hostess gift option.
Another returning favourite fragrance is Ginger Sparkle, featuring a cute-as-a-button gingerbread mascot and an invigorating spicy sweet smell. Channel holiday baking for months after unwrapping your gifts every time you use one of the limited-edition holiday products. This one is great for early birds to kick their morning showers off with a bang, and even boys will have a hard time saying no to the invigorating, zingy ginger aroma. The bright scent actually makes me gravitate toward picking it up in yet another new holiday product, Body Polish ($19), a gentle exfoliating scrub that sloughs off dry winter skin yet can actually be used everyday. Something about the combination of kicking dead skin to the curb and a zesty fresh smell just seems right, doesn’t it? As always, I should mention that many of The Body Shop’s holiday collection products include Community Fair Trade harvested shea butter from Ghana – so you know you shop with some serious peace-of-mind.
The third and final seasonal scent is Vanilla Bliss, a classic aroma that’s been given a gourmand overhaul this year to further tie into this possible unintentional but totally scrumptious anyway pantry goods theme. Vanilla is one of those classic yet irresistible scents – if a product comes in it, I’m hard-pressed not to choose it (which would in theory, make me drawn to all of the goods from this particular scent, if the other two weren’t equally delicious-smelling). This particular incarnation of vanilla smells just like you’ve cracked open a glass jar of vanilla pods, or like you’re about to chomp on a pastry chef’s luxurious dessert concoction. Because it’s so yum-tastic, my favourite product in this scent is the new Lip Balm Dome. With a hint of shimmer, moisturizing action, and a totally kissable, intoxicating smell, it’s a total steal for just $6, making it an ideal stocking stuffer or Secret Santa item.

I am a huge fan of the Body Shop Vanilla scents (and I have been since the Body Shop tshirt with a scrunchie days! Anyone else remember those??) Anyways, I’m excited to here they revamped the line. I’m going to rush out and get some. As a gift? I think I’d get my sister the COCONUT SHOWER, SCRUB & SOFTEN LUXURY GIFT. She’s a huge fan of the coconut line. For stocking stuffers, I always love to get the mini body butters in a bunch of scents. They’re fantastic.
You know, a few years back on the Oprah show, Oprah used a ginger body lotion and the audience kept raving about the scent. Oprah is a fan of Garret’s popcorn in Chicago and on a flight stopover there, I had a chance to try them. They are amazing – I would die for a bag right now. So I trust Oprah’s list of favourites and have looked for a ginger scented collection everywhere. I am thrilled to find that Bodyshop has that – I would definitely gift this and also use this for stocking stuffers. All of the ladies in my family grew up watching Oprah so I hope that this will be a hit for christmas this year!

I just did a BIG shopping at Body Shop for gifts but would love to be able to go back for myself and stuff my own stocking with a mini brush kit and wrap a deluxe almond hand care kit for under the tree. ٩(-̮̮̃-̃)۶ I hear it was Redbook recommended as best hand cream and my poor dry hands need all the help they can soak in.
